Oil Beetle rediscovered in UK after more than a century

I know that it is oldish news now but.....

Naturalist John Waters has found a Mediterranean Oil Beetle in South Devon. The beetle was thought to be extinct in the UK having last been seen in 1906 in Kent and it is the first ever sighting in the South West.

Waters was doing a study for the charity Buglife for their Oil Beetle survey.

Curiously it was the same area the rare Short Necked Oil Beetle was discovered a few years back. It does make you wonder what else is out there!

This takes the number of Oil Beetles in the UK up to 5

Yep, it does make you wonder what else is out there. We don't know the half of it!
