The Art of Perugia

I awoke to rain this morning...... NO! ...... and with an awful forecast it was to be a day in Perugia and indoors. But a funny thing happened when we left the hotel the rain stopped. I won't say the sun shone but it was dry and apparently the temperature reached 68f.

The first point of call was the Duomo of San Lorenzo......

and inside....

The Palazzo dei Priori is an amazing building here we have the steps up to the Sala dei Notari (lawyers meeting room)

and a detail inside......

Trish fancied a proper coffee so we popped into Sandri's a coffe/bar/cake shop (cakes had been eaten the night before.....)

The Fontana Maggiore

We wandered back to the Palazzo and went into the Collegio del Cambio (money changers guild) no photo.... but I have a cunning plan....

here is a detail from the room of the Il collegio della Mercanza (Merchants guid) also in the Palazzo

The Palazzo also holds the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria. It contains some wonderful paintings by Pietro Vannucci (Perugino) and my favourite a work Piero della Francesco. No photos which is a good thing because you look at the paintings but I have a cunning plan....

we had lunch at the Ristorante dei Sole this was taken through the window....

FOOD!!!

Taken just outside

We had the obligatory ice cream and then I mentioned to a certain someone that we might buy some chocolates.......

Whoosh I was dragged in.... lovely!

A good day!
