Venice Day 3 - Torcello, Burano and Mazzorbo

Finally that glorious blue Italian sky.

The hotel in the sun.

I'm thinking OC here :)

So we picked up the boat and off we headed

This is the cemetary....

Murano

The first view of Torcello and it's cathedral....

Alas no photos inside of the cathedral. It was founded in 639 and what you see today is early 11th century. There are some fine Byzantine Mosaics. It is well worth visiting. We went up the tower ....

When we arrived it was quiet but by the time we came down from the tower a number of tourist stalls had been set up!

We picked up the boat and hopped over to Burano

Burano is famed for lace.

Not a bad view for lunch

Mr Quacks topping up the tan

Mr Ponders (Ponders)

The island of Mazzorbo is linked to Burano by a foot bridge.

The church Santa Caterina (14th century)

Lots of ruined buildings on islands long deserted

Murano on the way back

The cemetary.

This is a hospital.......

Cracking day ....

and so we were happily eating our meal (washed down with a very fine Lugana) when Trish gets a text saying that due to a one day strike our flights on Friday have been cancelled!!! PANIC!!! The earliest we could get a flight was Sunday ....  The hotel had a cancellation so rooms were ok. So two more nights in Venice! And we intend claiming from Easyjet......... it's a hard life ....
