Day 3 - Herculaneum

Oh look rain so I dutifully took a light coat and brolly. The rain stopped as soon as I walked out of the hotel and both got carried for no effect.

I got the train to Herculaneum today. The station at Pompeii looked relatively inviting as we passed through whereas at Herculaneum..... the walk down to the ruins was not salubrious :)

Herculaneum was a Roman town destroyed when Vesuvius erupted in 79AD along with the more famous Pompeii. Much of the town is preserved.

Am I the only one who expected to see Lurcio (Up Pompeii) come around the corner?

This was a restaurant apparently the holes are part of a counter and stored food. Lots of people ate out.

Bath house

So after downing a bottle of water (it was hot) what next? We could have stopped at Pompeii but I suspected I might be all Romaned out...... so we went back to Sorrento - I didn't fancy anwhere in Herculaneum to eat so we went back to the hotel and ate on the terrace over looking that view!

The garden.

We went down to the sea for a coffee. A kingfisher zipped along the coast and Trish had a paddle whilst I read.

A relaxing day

Oh it was a special themed Sorrento night in the restaurant! Very enjoyable
