Day one - Madrid arriving amongst the rain

I left Stansted in bright sunshine, I landed at Madrid to wet and grey. It wasn't meant to be this way.

There was a taxi waiting outside (actually lots of them and nice organised!) and so we hopped in. The official Madrid taxis charge a flat rate for airport transfers.

The bags were dropped at the hotel and off we headed.

The Puerta del Sol....

You see lots of book stalls like this in Europe.

And you see lots of specialist shops. Whereas here you see supermarkets

The Opera house

The Plaza Mayor which is a fine square. Lots of stalls all round it selling coins and stamps!

All of the churches were having services.... well it was a Sunday

A vespa?

Mercado de San Miguel which was packed with specialist stalls.

One way of shopping eh ;)

So day one over..... will we see sun tomorrow?
